Last month this website misidentified the recipient of Southwest Chapter's Roy Kinslow Scholarship by posting the photo and information of the winner of the Permian Basin ASSE Chapter's award.

Roy Kinslow Scholarship Awarded

Michelle Lawrence is the 2013 recipient of the Southwest Chapter's Roy Kinslow Scholarship award of $1,000.  She is enrolled in Southeastern Oklahoma University's Department of Occupational Safety & Health.

Michelle is the mother of four children, ages 21, 18, 12 and 8 years old. She is employed at Delaware North Companies, where she is a food & beverage supervisor. In spite of her busy schedule, she managed to earn two A's and two B's in her recent semester's coursework.  In 2008, she volunteered in a construction program in Biloxi, MS, which introduced her to the field of occupational safety and health, and generated her desire to pursue a degree program.  Michelle plans to join the construction or oil and gas industry upon graduation in December 2013.

The chapter's scholarship award is administered by the ASSE Foundation, which distributes 102 other scholarships and grants annually.  Five other students at Southeastern Oklahoma also received stipends awarded by other organizations.

Members:  Check Your Email & Take the Survey!

The Chapter's Communication Vice President, Rebecca Pederson, sent an email to all members on April 29 with a request for input regarding the chapter's educational and professional development activities and events.  Please check your email inbox for Rebecca's email titled 2013 SW-ASSE Survey and take a few moments to complete the short survey at the web link provided in the email.  Your feedback will help improve our training, networking and professional development offerings.

Webinars similar to the one described to the right are the type of activities the chapter can sponsor based on members' input.

25 Members Attend Free Webinar

Twenty-five members took advantage of the chapter's first offering of one of society's webinars on April 24.  Based on feedback from the attendees, the chapter will likely pick up the tab for future group webinars produced by ASSE national.
