Science Fair "Safety"Judging
SW
Chapter ASSE selected "Best Safety-Related" student projects at the
53rd annual Beal Bank Dallas Regional Science and
Engineering Fair on February 27. Winners in junior and senior
divisions each received a $100 cash award, plaque and our
sponsorship to attend the awards banquet with their respective
teachers.
Sophie Druffner of All Saints Catholic School won junior division
for her project “Engine, Engine No. 9: The Effect of Quiet
Zones on Grade Crossing Accidents,” which looked into quiet zones at
railroad grade crossings and their effect on accidents at these
crossings.
Senior division's Jennifer Pham of Smith High in the
Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD won for “Multitasking: Speeding Up
Life or Speeding Up Death?” which looked into effects of using
hand-held cell phones, speakerphones, MP3 players and texting while
driving.
Many thanks go to the Science Fair Committee for all their time and
effort. Members of the committee include John Egan, Larry Gates and
David Orrick (L-R in photo) and John Billingham.
